Cotswold & Wyevern Labrador Retriever Club Open show – 5th July 2023.
I would like to thank the club for inviting me to judge the open show after the original judge Mr Gavin Robertson was unavailable and I would like to wish him a speedy recovery. It was a pleasure to go over so many quality dogs and in some classes I was splitting hairs with my placings. My final decisions were based on overall balance, movement and whether the dog could do a day’s work. There were quality dogs in every class, however during the day I found some dogs with a lighter eye colour than I would like to see and there were a few bad feet and weak hindquarters with straight stifles which greatly affected movement. There were no bad bites and temperaments overall were excellent. I was happy with my final line up and really enjoyed my day. I would like to thank my main steward Carolyn Jenkins who was invaluable and made things run smoothly and the other committee members who also helped steward throughout the day.
